What's the job?

You will be working with the existing web development team and other members of our agency to support on a range of web projects

What are we after?

  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3
  • Basic understanding of JavaScript/jQuery
  • Ability to write clean and reusable code
  • Experience using CMS systems e.g WordPress
  • Experience of responsive web design, grid systems and frameworks e.g. Bootstrap
  • Cross-browser development and accessibility
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work within a team

  • Work experience in a development role
  • Experience with SCSS
  • Familiarity with PHP

What's the job?

We are looking for an experienced PR professional to join our content team to support in the development of PR strategies, social media content, keyword-friendly blogs, and more for our clients.

What will you be doing?

  • Writing press releases, features, blogs and marketing copy across a range of clients
  • Developing social media schedules and campaigns for a range of platforms
  • Scheduling content for different platforms and interacting on accounts
  • Monitor the success of media coverage and develop press reports
  • Run monthly social media analytics reports
  • Joining weekly content meetings to develop fresh ideas for clients
  • Maintaining and expanding our publication databases
  • Liaising with the media to discover opportunities for clients

What are we looking for?

  • Educated to degree level in PR, Journalism or relevant course
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience of developing and PR marketing content
  • Experience of creating social media content and handling accounts is desired
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and within a fast-paced environment
  • A self-starter who shows initiative and is both organised and enthusiastic

Laura promoted to Studio Manager…

For almost two years, Laura has been an integral part of the Walnut team, and now we’re pleased to announce that she has been promoted to the role of Studio Manager.

Our Laura joined us as Content Marketing Coordinator in early 2017, moving on from a career in journalism to develop our PR and content department. Since then, she has used her skills and experience to effectively plan and implement PR strategies and content for our clients. 

From the start, Laura has shown initiative and commitment to her role which quickly led her to managing client accounts and projects from an early stage, using her passion, organisation and expertise to develop marketing campaigns and plans.

Whilst Laura heads up our content department, managing our PR Coordinator, Melissa, and Social Media Coordinator, Megan, Laura’s commitment to delivering client excellence has allowed her to step up and take a senior position within our team.

This year is already shaping up to be an exciting year for Walnut, so what better time to make Laura’s position official and make her our Studio Manager. As well, as maintaining her positions as head of content and account manager, Laura will now manage our studio, alongside Liam and Glen. 

Glen Crossland, Director at Walnut, said: “Laura is a huge asset to our team, she is a vital part of all PR and content related marketing, but also does a fantastic job of managing accounts, projects and the Walnut team.

Walnut Welcomes Craig & Nathan To The Team

At the beginning of the year, we told you that we had big things planned for 2019 and we are happy to reveal that our team has grown once again with not one but TWO new members of staff.

Walnut are thrilled to open our doors to Lead Web Developer, Craig Wistow, and Graphic Designer, Nathan Whiteley, meaning our office is now the busiest it’s ever been!

Craig is an experienced web developer and will be taking the lead on all web related matters using the knowledge and skills he has gained over the past 10 years of being self-employed. Craig is a self-taught web developer and created his first ever website at 12-years-old, so it’s safe to say that he knows his stuff!

Over in the design department is Nathan, who has joined Walnut to assist the design team with all things creative. Nathan attended Sheffield Hallam University where he obtained a first class honours degree in Graphic Design back in 2017 and has previously worked for a reputable design agency.

Glen Crossland, Director at Walnut, said: “It’s such a busy time for Walnut at the moment and we’ve taken on two new members of staff in the space of a week, which is fantastic!

“Recently we’ve had lots of web work coming in so having Craig as lead developer will benefit the web department massively, as he has many years of experience and will be able to manage the huge workload we have at the moment with web.

“The demand for design work is also increasing every day, so it’s great to have Nathan on board. Nathan is a very talented lad and also has a good knowledge of print, which is brilliant for Walnut as we have recently introduced our new printing service.

“Having both Craig and Nathan join the team will be really good for Walnut as a business and I am really excited to see what the rest of 2019 will bring as it’s such an exciting time for us right now.”

Vlog: NAFEM 2019 (Orlando, Florida)

The Walnut team were recently given the opportunity to design an exhibition stand for one of our valued clients over at the NAFEM show in Orlando, Florida. This was a huge opportunity for us to test our skills as it’s the first time we’ve worked on a project of this type to this scale in the USA.

Glen, Liam and Josh made the trip in early February, documenting the management of the stand build, social media support, show photography and videography in the process producing our first vlog below.

We are aiming to produce at least one vlog per month documenting everything from basic service overviews to stand out projects and beyond, giving you an insight into our business and how we work.

Walnut are now setting our sights high with our latest creative offering that will accompany our ever-growing range of gadgets and gizmos in the photography and videography department!

Yes, we’ve only gone and purchased a drone which will allow for footage to be taken from the sky and will expand the services we currently offer in photography and videography for our clients!

We have several clients who have made use of our videography services and our team have worked closely with many of them to produce some fantastic photography and video projects for use on web, social media and other digital campaigns.

With a selection of market leading cameras and accessories, this latest addition to our range of technological toys will enable us to up our game when it comes to digital marketing, enabling our team to capture any kind of shot possible to create the perfect photo or piece of film..... Permission to fly of course will be required 😉

We’re recruiting! Web Developers get in touch!

Are you a dedicated web developer seeking a new opportunity or know someone who is? Well we have good news - Walnut are recruiting!

We’re looking for an experienced web developer to join our team who will work with the existing web team as well as our graphic designers and PR team on a range of exciting projects.

To be considered for this role, you must have a clear knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and Jquery as well as being familiar with PHP.

You must also be able to write clean and reusable code and be responsive with web design, grid systems, frameworks and also cross-browser development and accessibility.

The ideal candidate should have good time management, organisational and communication skills and the ability to work well within a team, as well as having experience in the development of websites for desktop, tablet and mobile and CMS systems.

What would be beneficial, but not compulsory, for this role is that the candidate has 2 year’s work experience in a development role and experience with SCSS and Ecommerce CMS systems, with a thorough knowledge of Version control (GIT).

The foodservice podcast, from Walnut Creative

It’s fair to say that Walnut know a lot about foodservice - we could probably talk for hours on the subject and there is little we don’t know about it!

So, what better way to talk about foodservice with other industry professionals for everyone else to hear with a podcast hosted by our very own Glen and Liam, an industry first!

Yes, Walnut will be launching our very own foodservice podcast in which Glen and Liam will be talking all things foodservice with different guests every cast from the likes of chefs, restaurant owners, distributors and manufacturers (or anyone who works in the foodservice sector and fancies a good natter with the nutters!)

In each podcast, we will discuss the latest news, equipment, innovations and the future of foodservice with our guests, finding out their opinions on the subject matter.

Glen currently co-hosts a podcast with workwear brand, Clobber-Calm, talking to denim and leather brands around the world including Red Wing, Levi’s, Nudie Jeans and many more.

The podcast proved to be a success and was even featured in Grazia magazine, which gave us inspiration to do our own for the foodservice sector.

Glen said: “I’ve done quite a few podcasts for the ClobberCast with Ben Woodhouse on a continuous rolling schedule, we love them! It’s great speaking with all the guests from around the world and discussing views and opinions on the podcast. This gave me the idea to do a catering specific podcast in which foodservice is the topic of conversation.”

“I’ve been in the foodservice sector for almost 10 years now, and I’ve learnt so much about the industry from all angles which is why I decided to start Walnut Creative.

“Being in the industry since I was quite young has allowed me to develop my knowledge on foodservice, which is why I thought doing a podcast would be a good idea and something I think could really take off as this has never been done before with this particular subject.”

Happy new year!

With Christmas now over and the New Year upon us, the Walnut team are back in the office and ready to take on 2019!

Although we’re still dreaming about mulled wine and Christmas pudding, this month is already set to be a busy time for us with trade show events and meetings with clients.

Last year was a big year for exhibitions, with several of our clients exhibiting at some of the industry’s top trade shows and this year looks set to be even bigger for trade events!

In just a few weeks’ time, the Professional Kitchen Show will be taking place on January 22nd and 23rd at the NEC, Birmingham, which some of our clients will be exhibiting at.

The Professional Kitchen Show allows exhibitors and visitors to come together and discover the latest catering equipment and services on the market from manufacturers, dealers and designers.

As well as this, our Director, Glen, will also be back at the Munich Fabric Start trade show, which is an international denim trade fair for all the latest developments and products in denim.

Glen will be attending BLUEZONE along with one of our clients, Clobber-Calm, which specialises in men’s vintage denim and leather.

BLUEZONE will take place on January 29th and 30th between 9:30am - 6:30pm and Glen will be attending with founder of Clobber-Calm, Ben Woodhouse.

Glen and Ben host a weekly podcast called the ‘ClobberCast’ for Clobber-Calm, where they discuss all things denim, vintage and leather and will be podcasting live from BLUEZONE.

Even though it’s only the start of January and we’re still recovering from the amount of pigs in blankets (and non-meat food for our veggies) we’ve consumed over the festive period, the Walnut team have dived straight back into the workload and are busy planning for the rest of the year.

We can’t wait to see what the year brings for us and we’re looking forward to getting stuck in with new ideas and exciting plans.

Festive closure details…

Walnut Creative Ltd will be closing the doors on 2018 on the 24th December and will be back in action on the 2nd January! During the break time Liam and Glen will be available and will be working on the 27th, 28th and 31st handling all urgent enquiries and emails.

We would like to thank each and every person that's interacted with us in 2018! It's been a huge year for us and we're extremely grateful of all of our clients that we provide services to. 2019 is set to be a huge year for us and our core focus is customer service and creativity! That's what our business is all about.

Glen, commented: "We're absolutely driven by the happiness of our clients and the feedback we get across the board in all departments of our agency, like all businesses there's been bumps in the road in 2018 but ultimately we're richer for the experience and have learnt from these situations. We're extremely proud to have worked across the globe this year experiencing work in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Dubai and in the new year we tackle our first project state side!
