Welcome aboard Danny boy!

Just over a month ago, we welcomed two new Walnutters into the office and guess what… we’ve only gone and hired another team member!

Danny Lockwood is our latest recruit and joins our social media department alongside Megan, creating and scheduling content for clients across a range of platforms. In his role, Danny will work closely with the content team to share all content marketing such as blogs, press releases and features across social media and will also work with the design team to assist with the development of social media posts.

Previously, Danny worked in the social media department for a car manufacturer and also has several years experience in customer service.

Our social media department has quickly grown in the last six months after Megan joined the team back in October last year as our social media coordinator and since then, the demand for social media has increased hugely.

Glen Crossland, Director at Walnut, said: “Megan and the content team have been really busy lately with the amount of social media work we’ve had so it only felt right to get someone else on board. Danny has previous experience in social media and has a keen interest in this field and along with Megan, the team will be looking into ways we can further develop social media for our clients.

“It’s such a busy and exciting time for Walnut as a whole at the moment, and we are delighted to welcome yet another member to our ever-growing team!”

Social media is extremely important for businesses both large and small and can help to build awareness of businesses, provide support to customers and is extremely cost-effective.

To get in touch with Danny, contact him via his email danny@walnutcreative.co.uk or call our office number on 01226 720711.

Walnut @ the ceda conference

This week is the annual ceda Conference, one of the leading events within the catering equipment industry, and our Director, Glen, will be attending the two-day event!

The conference, which will be held on Thursday and Friday this week at the stunning Heythrop Park, Oxfordshire, invites distributors, manufacturers and representatives from associations representing some of the major end groups within the foodservice industry.

Starting on the Thursday afternoon, the conference will begin with the ceda Annual General Meeting (AGM) followed by an informal networking dinner in the evening. Friday will then involve a day of interactive seminars hosted by some of the industry’s top speakers and the ceda Gala Awards Dinner taking place in the evening, when the ceda Grand Prix Awards and the ceda Supplier Awards will also take place.

Celebrating the best in the industry, the ceda Grand Prix Awards recognises the most recent outstanding catering projects, as well as suppliers who have delivered excellent service over the past 12 months.

With the ceda Supplier Awards, ceda members vote for the suppliers they believe have delivered an excellent service on the basis of quality of the product, support and service.

Whilst at the conference, Glen will be catching up with some of our clients who will be attending as well as getting stuck in with the networking sessions before putting on his glad rags for the evening events.

ceda is the leading industry body for foodservice businesses, bringing together its members and partners to help them achieve their goals and encourage enterprise and innovation.

If you’re attending the ceda Conference and you spot Glen, say hello and he will be happy to have a chat over a beer (or two…)

Last week at the StrEAT Food Awards…

Last week was the annual B&I Catering StrEAT Food Awards and our very own Laura and Mel headed down to London to represent Walnut at the event!

The B&I StrEAT Food Awards took place last Thursday and invites the UK’s most creative street food chefs, caterers and other foodservice professionals from the workplace and event catering sectors to battle it out for the chance to win £1,000.

Held at the Islington Metal Works, the event involved competitors taking part in a live cook-off during the day with 16 finalists from 16 contract caterers cooking three different dishes in just 55 minutes, with the winners being announced in the evening.

Winning the £1,000 prize was Andrew Taylor who won Street Food Dish of the Year for his Cobra beer-battered chicken chapati and triple-cooked Bombay fries. Picking up the Street Food Chef of the Year award was Dan Kirkpatrick from Angel Hill Food Co after using products provided by the sponsors to create a Vietnamese smoked caramel and soy chicken. As well as this, Tom Frost from Elior won the Best Vegan Street Food Dish for his Quorn avocado scotch egg.

Judging the awards was consultant, Vic Laws MBE, Steve Scuffell from the Craft Guild of Chefs, BBQ Ben Bartlett and Jeni Edwards from ljEss Consulting, who collectively chose Andrew’s dish as the winner based on its authentic spices, homemade ingredients and local produce.

Sponsors of the event included Major, Love Joes, Electrolux, Quorn, Old El Paso, Farm Frites and many others in which a selection of delicious street food was served such as curry, BBQ jerk chicken, stuffed bao buns, vegan burgers and vegan fish, loaded tortillas and nachos and sweet potato fries.

Providing the drinks was The London Essence Co free bar offering Birra Moretti and Budweiser as well as a range of botanical gin, vodka and rum based cocktails which the girls very much enjoyed, maybe a little too much…

Both Laura and Mel had a great time at the event which also allowed them to catch up with contacts from the industry’s key publications to discuss future opportunities for our clients.

We love attending industry events which allows us to meet new people and enjoy great food and drink - we can’t wait for next year’s awards!

Laura promoted to Studio Manager…

For almost two years, Laura has been an integral part of the Walnut team, and now we’re pleased to announce that she has been promoted to the role of Studio Manager.

Our Laura joined us as Content Marketing Coordinator in early 2017, moving on from a career in journalism to develop our PR and content department. Since then, she has used her skills and experience to effectively plan and implement PR strategies and content for our clients.

From the start, Laura has shown initiative and commitment to her role which quickly led her to managing client accounts and projects from an early stage, using her passion, organisation and expertise to develop marketing campaigns and plans.

Whilst Laura heads up our content department, managing our PR Coordinator, Melissa, and Social Media Coordinator, Megan, Laura’s commitment to delivering client excellence has allowed her to step up and take a senior position within our team.

This year is already shaping up to be an exciting year for Walnut, so what better time to make Laura’s position official and make her our Studio Manager. As well, as maintaining her positions as head of content and account manager, Laura will now manage our studio, alongside Liam and Glen.

Glen Crossland, Director at Walnut, said: “Laura is a huge asset to our team, she is a vital part of all PR and content related marketing, but also does a fantastic job of managing accounts, projects and the Walnut team.

“Laura has always shown confidence and motivation to get the job done right, her expertise is invaluable to us and I’m sure she will flourish in her new role.”

If you would like to find out more on how Walnut can help your business with PR or content or have any questions on our services, get in touch with Laura at laura@walnutcreative.co.uk or call the office on 01226 720711.

From all of the team at Walnut, a big congrats to Laura on her new role - well done hun

Walnut Welcomes Craig & Nathan To The Team

At the beginning of the year, we told you that we had big things planned for 2019 and we are happy to reveal that our team has grown once again with not one but TWO new members of staff.

Walnut are thrilled to open our doors to Lead Web Developer, Craig Wistow, and Graphic Designer, Nathan Whiteley, meaning our office is now the busiest it’s ever been!

Craig is an experienced web developer and will be taking the lead on all web related matters using the knowledge and skills he has gained over the past 10 years of being self-employed. Craig is a self-taught web developer and created his first ever website at 12-years-old, so it’s safe to say that he knows his stuff!

Over in the design department is Nathan, who has joined Walnut to assist the design team with all things creative. Nathan attended Sheffield Hallam University where he obtained a first class honours degree in Graphic Design back in 2017 and has previously worked for a reputable design agency.

Glen Crossland, Director at Walnut, said: “It’s such a busy time for Walnut at the moment and we’ve taken on two new members of staff in the space of a week, which is fantastic!

“Recently we’ve had lots of web work coming in so having Craig as lead developer will benefit the web department massively, as he has many years of experience and will be able to manage the huge workload we have at the moment with web.

“The demand for design work is also increasing every day, so it’s great to have Nathan on board. Nathan is a very talented lad and also has a good knowledge of print, which is brilliant for Walnut as we have recently introduced our new printing service.

“Having both Craig and Nathan join the team will be really good for Walnut as a business and I am really excited to see what the rest of 2019 will bring as it’s such an exciting time for us right now.”

To contact Craig, send him an email at craig@walnutcreative.co.uk or to speak with Nathan, drop him a message at nathan@walnutcreative.co.uk.
