Walnut Welcomes Craig & Nathan To The Team

At the beginning of the year, we told you that we had big things planned for 2019 and we are happy to reveal that our team has grown once again with not one but TWO new members of staff.

Walnut are thrilled to open our doors to Lead Web Developer, Craig Wistow, and Graphic Designer, Nathan Whiteley, meaning our office is now the busiest it’s ever been!

Craig is an experienced web developer and will be taking the lead on all web related matters using the knowledge and skills he has gained over the past 10 years of being self-employed. Craig is a self-taught web developer and created his first ever website at 12-years-old, so it’s safe to say that he knows his stuff!

Over in the design department is Nathan, who has joined Walnut to assist the design team with all things creative. Nathan attended Sheffield Hallam University where he obtained a first class honours degree in Graphic Design back in 2017 and has previously worked for a reputable design agency.

Glen Crossland, Director at Walnut, said: “It’s such a busy time for Walnut at the moment and we’ve taken on two new members of staff in the space of a week, which is fantastic!

“Recently we’ve had lots of web work coming in so having Craig as lead developer will benefit the web department massively, as he has many years of experience and will be able to manage the huge workload we have at the moment with web.

“The demand for design work is also increasing every day, so it’s great to have Nathan on board. Nathan is a very talented lad and also has a good knowledge of print, which is brilliant for Walnut as we have recently introduced our new printing service.

“Having both Craig and Nathan join the team will be really good for Walnut as a business and I am really excited to see what the rest of 2019 will bring as it’s such an exciting time for us right now.”

To contact Craig, send him an email at craig@walnutcreative.co.uk or to speak with Nathan, drop him a message at nathan@walnutcreative.co.uk.

Vlog: NAFEM 2019 (Orlando, Florida)

The Walnut team were recently given the opportunity to design an exhibition stand for one of our valued clients over at the NAFEM show in Orlando, Florida. This was a huge opportunity for us to test our skills as it’s the first time we’ve worked on a project of this type to this scale in the USA.

Glen, Liam and Josh made the trip in early February, documenting the management of the stand build, social media support, show photography and videography in the process producing our first vlog below.

We are aiming to produce at least one vlog per month documenting everything from basic service overviews to stand out projects and beyond, giving you an insight into our business and how we work.

Please take the time to watch the video and let us know your thoughts!

The foodservice podcast, from Walnut Creative

It’s fair to say that Walnut know a lot about foodservice - we could probably talk for hours on the subject and there is little we don’t know about it!

So, what better way to talk about foodservice with other industry professionals for everyone else to hear with a podcast hosted by our very own Glen and Liam, an industry first!

Yes, Walnut will be launching our very own foodservice podcast in which Glen and Liam will be talking all things foodservice with different guests every cast from the likes of chefs, restaurant owners, distributors and manufacturers (or anyone who works in the foodservice sector and fancies a good natter with the nutters!)

In each podcast, we will discuss the latest news, equipment, innovations and the future of foodservice with our guests, finding out their opinions on the subject matter.

Glen currently co-hosts a podcast with workwear brand, Clobber-Calm, talking to denim and leather brands around the world including Red Wing, Levi’s, Nudie Jeans and many more.

The podcast proved to be a success and was even featured in Grazia magazine, which gave us inspiration to do our own for the foodservice sector.

Glen said: “I’ve done quite a few podcasts for the ClobberCast with Ben Woodhouse on a continuous rolling schedule, we love them! It’s great speaking with all the guests from around the world and discussing views and opinions on the podcast. This gave me the idea to do a catering specific podcast in which foodservice is the topic of conversation.”

“I’ve been in the foodservice sector for almost 10 years now, and I’ve learnt so much about the industry from all angles which is why I decided to start Walnut Creative.

“Being in the industry since I was quite young has allowed me to develop my knowledge on foodservice, which is why I thought doing a podcast would be a good idea and something I think could really take off as this has never been done before with this particular subject.”

We’re currently looking for potential guests we can chat to for the podcast so if you’re in the foodservice industry and would like to be involved, you can get in touch at glen@walnutcreative.co.uk.

The podcast will be available for you to listen to and download from the iTunes Podcasts app, so make sure you keep an eye out for more info coming very soon!

Happy new year!

With Christmas now over and the New Year upon us, the Walnut team are back in the office and ready to take on 2019!

Although we’re still dreaming about mulled wine and Christmas pudding, this month is already set to be a busy time for us with trade show events and meetings with clients.

Last year was a big year for exhibitions, with several of our clients exhibiting at some of the industry’s top trade shows and this year looks set to be even bigger for trade events!

In just a few weeks’ time, the Professional Kitchen Show will be taking place on January 22nd and 23rd at the NEC, Birmingham, which some of our clients will be exhibiting at.

The Professional Kitchen Show allows exhibitors and visitors to come together and discover the latest catering equipment and services on the market from manufacturers, dealers and designers.

As well as this, our Director, Glen, will also be back at the Munich Fabric Start trade show, which is an international denim trade fair for all the latest developments and products in denim.

Glen will be attending BLUEZONE along with one of our clients, Clobber-Calm, which specialises in men’s vintage denim and leather.

BLUEZONE will take place on January 29th and 30th between 9:30am - 6:30pm and Glen will be attending with founder of Clobber-Calm, Ben Woodhouse.

Glen and Ben host a weekly podcast called the ‘ClobberCast’ for Clobber-Calm, where they discuss all things denim, vintage and leather and will be podcasting live from BLUEZONE.

Even though it’s only the start of January and we’re still recovering from the amount of pigs in blankets (and non-meat food for our veggies) we’ve consumed over the festive period, the Walnut team have dived straight back into the workload and are busy planning for the rest of the year.

We can’t wait to see what the year brings for us and we’re looking forward to getting stuck in with new ideas and exciting plans.

From everyone at Walnut, we would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! Bring on 2019!

walnut creative introduce in-house print facility…

At Walnut Creative, we’re always looking to expand our offering to clients both existing and new. Over the past three years, we’ve successfully implemented all in-house services including web design, graphic design, social media management, PR, videography, photography and strategy planning.

With all of this you’d think that would be enough to go at right? Nooooo, never! There’s always something else the Walnut team can find to get their teeth into, and we’ve found our next service we’d like to introduce which is our latest step forward as a business.

Walnut Creative are delighted to announce that we have developed a new printing service which is now in operation, manufacturing in the heart of Sheffield. This impressive service includes digital printing, H-UV litho, conventional litho, flatbed large format and roll-to-roll large format, which is supported by our full in-house design studio offering a range of after-services.

We offer five colour plus coating as well as H-UV (hybrid UV) drying and with this press, more in-line finishes and printing can be offered which makes our service simply unique. Our H-UV drying process allows for outstanding reproduction, meaning there are no issues that may be experienced with usual presses.

Our high quality UV ink allows for an exceptional finish with no dull image reproduction, and the instant drying process means there is no marking. What is also unique about our print service is that all of this is done without using spray powder, so you can be sure that the printing quality is perfect throughout.

What’s also great about this new service is that our B2 litho allows us to offer a bespoke service you will struggle to find anywhere else!

Our printing services include print solutions, large format and finishing, providing you with a wide range of printing and marketing solutions. Whether it’s leaflets, brochures or any other printing you may require, we’ve got you covered!

To find out more about our printing services, please email glen@walnutcreative.co.uk or give us a call on 01226 720711.

Catering Insight Awards 2018

For foodservice and catering equipment professionals, the Catering Insight Awards is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year and we were thrilled to be there to support our clients and friends!

The evening of celebrations took place at the stunning Bloomsbury Ballroom in central London, and our Director, Glen, headed down to the capital yesterday and got on his glad rags ready for the black tie event.

This year’s fourth annual Catering Insight Awards welcomed over 200 catering equipment industry executives for a networking drinks reception, before a three course meal which was followed by the awards ceremony.

Leading distributors, manufacturers and suppliers were presented with awards in their associated categories, with this year’s winning roster including some of our own clients! After the awards took place, the famous after-party commenced with everyone continuing the celebrations well into the early hours of the morning.

Walnut would like to say a big congratulations to all of the winners, it was lovely to catch up with our good friends and clients in the industry - it was a perfect way to close the end the year on a high ahead of the upcoming Christmas shutdown.

We’d also like to say thank you to Commercial Kitchen Show for having us on their table!

We can’t wait for next year’s event! Be sure to catch up on all the gossip and results on www.cateringinsight.com.

Walnut at the Culinary World Cup, Luxembourg

Walnut love travelling overseas for the latest industry events and this week we’re over to Luxembourg for an international cooking competition! Well not just any competition, the Culinary World Cup!

Our photography and videography team headed over to Luxembourg for the Villeroy & Boch Culinary World Cup competition to catch footage of this exciting event, which takes place at Expogast, the international trade show for gastronomy.

Organised by Vatel Club Luxembourg, the official association of professional chefs of Luxembourg, the competition was held from November 24th - 28th, and our team were there throughout the entire event which some of our clients also attended.

The competition involves national and junior teams of chefs cooking up a range of culinary dishes which are then tasted and graded by guests.

Expogast is one of many international trade shows we’ve attended this year, after we recently attended trade shows in Dubai, France, Germany and Holland.

Despite this being our last international trade show event that we’ll be attending this year, we’re already busy planning other overseas events with clients, such as the NAFEM Show.

The NAFEM Show will take place in Orlando, Florida in February next year, and will showcase the latest cutting edge foodservice equipment which includes over 500 new products from some of the world’s leading manufacturers in the industry.

Glen Crossland, Walnut’s Director, said: “We are very fortunate that we are able to attend so many trade shows and events that take place outside of the UK, as this provides us with the opportunity to find out the latest product innovations, scour the market for new opportunities and catch up with our clients in new environments, this helps to broaden our knowledge and increase our understanding of the international market.

“Foodservice trade shows are a fantastic platform for our clients to showcase what they do and the products they supply, and we have visited so many brilliant international events this year.

“The team are already planning events for the year ahead, and we are looking forward to heading out to Florida in February for the NAFEM Show which will be our first international trade show of 2019, so that will be a great way to start the new year.”

To find out how Walnut can assist your business with exhibition events or trade shows, contact the team on 01226 720711 or email glen@walnutcreative.co.uk for more information.
